Compare Car Hire

car hire carsWhen renting a car it is always important to compare what other car hire companies have on offer in order to get the best deals. There are more car hire companies operating today in the UK than ever before and with such enormous competition available, some companies have dropped their rates significantly offering significant savings. So much so, that some people now view car rental as a more economical option than outright ownership! If you are looking to hire a care, make sure you compare by following these five tips designed to help you get the best car hire price.

Check the Premium

What may be included as a basic inclusion in some car hire agreements may attract a hefty premium in others. In-car global positioning systems (GPS) are a classic example of this. Some car hire companies may include GPS as a standard accessory, but others may charge you an additional premium for having it installed.

Compare

Comparing car hire companies will enable you to seek out a real deal, and can definitely save you a lot of money. Although a daily, weekly or monthly rate may appear (at least on the surface) to be great value, you should also compare what, if any, hidden charges and fees may apply. Well-established companies tend to offer the best deals, especially if they are offering promotions and discounts.

Additional Charges

In some cases these fees and additional charges can be in excess of the car rental amount. Some car hire companies may also charge you a significant premium for a one-way rental, whereby the customer picks up the rental car from one location, but drops it off at another. Some companies may allow one-way rentals at no additional charge, but others may charge you.

Insurance

You should always compare what insurance excess applies in the unfortunate event of an accident. Some insurance excess’s can amount to hundreds of pounds, whereas some companies won’t charge any insurance excess at all. You might also want to check whether the car rental agreement allows for additional drivers other than the person who signs the rental agreement. Once again, some car rental companies allow for additional drivers, but other may charge an additional fee for allowing an additional driver.

Time of Year

A big factor in price, relates to when you want to hire the care. Peak seasons include holidays and summer months, when the demand for car rental is high. For lower prices during these times be sure to book ahead, and well in advance of your trip. Most companies offer some discount for booking early.
